Ed Sheeran Says He’ll Star In Movie To Be Shot At Wembley Stadium
Have you ever wanted to see what goes on behind the scenes at an Ed Sheeran concert? Now you’ll have your chance.
Ed Sheeran has announced that he will star in a concert movie, set to be filmed during Sheeran’s three-night stand at Wembley Stadium, where Sheeran will play to approximately 90,000 people each night.
The film is expected to be similar to the concert movies recently released by Katy Perry and One Direction.
About the film, Sheeran told the Sun the following.
“We are doing something for the Wembley Stadium gigs. It will be a documentary. It’s going to go out in cinemas in the UK and Europe. But it’s just going to be a one-off thing.”
In speaking to the Sun, Sheeran also said that he would be interested in a reality TV show, given the right circumstances.
“If I had kids and someone came to me and said ‘Here’s a reality show, here’s a bunch of money’, of course I’d do it, but I’m not at that stage yet.”
Sheeran has reportedly said that the documentary will follow as he prepares for the large-scale concerts, giving fans an inside look to what happens backstage before the concert begins.
Sheeran’s Wembley Stadium gigs will begin July 10. Each of the three shows is sold out. Wembley Stadium is located in London.
Sheeran’s trio of Wembley gigs has been highly anticipated by many, including Sheeran himself. In May, Sheeran talked to Entertainment Weekly about selling out the venue for multiple nights in a row, saying he had something to prove.
“I did it for the same reason that I put on the Madison Square Garden shows—because no one thought I could do them. It’s a strategic thing. So on the next album, I can come back and I’m a serious contender. Because I’m not necessarily a star … I feel like there’s a misconception of me as an artist, that I’m not that successful. So I wanted to tell the world, ‘Actually, here’s three Wembley Stadium gigs that sold out, I’ll see you on the next album.’ I want to bow out on this album as big as it gets.”
Ed Sheeran set a record with his “Thinking Out Loud” song when it became the first song to ever spend an entire year on the Top 40 UK chart. Sheeran has seen large success with both his x album and many singles from the same record, and he’s currently selling out stadiums across the United States and Canada. Starring in a documentary-style film is likely to give Ed Sheeran more star power while helping to build his brand.
