‘Destiny’ Prison Of Elders: Urrox, Flame Prince Strategy Guide
The Urrox’s Rage boss fight in Destiny’s Prison of Elders can make PlayStation and Xbox owners rage a little when dealing with this encounter’s mechanics. This guide will help Guardians bring the Hive boss down quickly so they can make it into the treasure room as soon as possible.
Note that this guide is only for the boss encounter against Urrox. Please check out the Prison of Elders General Strategy Guide for tips on how to get through the first four rounds of any encounter.
Basics
The basic mechanic behind Urrox is that he summons “Urrox’s Rage” after a period of time. This causes the floor to burn for 10 seconds and forces Guardians to jump in the air or die because a Solar burn is also in effect. It’s an easy mechanic to counter, however, as long as you control the enemy minions.
Team Makeup
Ideally, the fireteam should include at least one Titan Defender with the “Blessing of Light” perk for the Ward of Dawn bubble. The Glasshouse helmet is a good alternative to extend “Blessing of Light” protection. If you can get two Titans, it just makes it easier as the two can just rotate popping their bubble.
Urrox’s Rage is most difficult on Hunters. This is where you will want to switch to Gunslinger and enable the “Triple Jump” perk to maximize your hangtime.
Warlocks will want to be Sunsinger and should use either Solar Grenades to keep enemies away or Fusion Grenades to bring down Wizard shields. Go with the “Flame Shield” perk for the overshield on melee damage and, of course, “Fireborn” for self-resurrection.
Equipment
Primary weapons should be your best Solar primary if you have one due to the Solar burn that is always in effect with this boss fight. If you don’t have one, go with something that has a “Firefly” perk or just your best primary overall.
At least two of the Fireteam should be equipped with Solar burn sniper rifles. Black Hammer does really well in this fight because Urrox has such a big noggin that it’s easy to score critical hits and proc the “White Nail” perk. Any high impact sniper rifle with Solar will do, however.
Heavy weapons should be solar as well. A good Rocket Launcher with tracking such as the Hunger of Crota or Gjallarhorn is recommended to take down Wizards quickly.
Strategy
Move to the room on the left side of the map and begin clearing as many minions as you can before Urrox summons his rage. When the rage is announced, the Titan should drop their bubble behind the pillar in the room on the right. That’s the right side when looking out at Uroxx.
All three members of the fireteam should go in the bubble and jump and float for as long as possible. The reason this is the ideal spot, in my opinion, is because there is a lip on the roof of the room that hangs down and protects you while you are in the air.
This area works well even if you are running a fireteam without a Defender Titan. You’ll want to use area denial grenades during Urrox’s Rage to keep minions from charging up the stairs if there is no bubble.
When Urrox’s Rage subsides, have one player focused on clearing out enemies and taking shots at Urrox when the opportunity presents itself. The other two players should be using their sniper rifles to get headshots on Urrox and stagger him. He can be easily stun-locked so that he doesn’t even fire his oversized Hive Cannon. Just don’t get focused on shooting him and miss any minions shooting at you or the notification that Urrox is about to go in rage mode.
You can use rocket launchers against Urrox, but my experience has been that it is better to save them for the yellow bar Wizards and Knights as they are the most dangerous to deal with in this encounter. Don’t let them linger as they will rush your position.
Two Ogres will spawn occasionally next to Urrox in the pool at the back of the map. They should be a priority after the Wizards and Knights as they can snipe players with their “mind beams.”
You can check out the video below for a pretty textbook run of this strategy. This was with a pickup group through DestinyLFG consisting of two Titans and a Warlock. There were a couple of mistakes made, but we discussed strategy before heading in to make sure everyone was on the same page. It went smoothly with only one death due to being a little over-aggressive. Fortunately, it was the Sunsinger in the group so there was no harm.
