Sony’s PlayStation 4 is not backing down with news of the Xbox One Elite Controller stirring the gaming community when it was announced in E3 2015 . PlayStation 4 users will now have access to the originally limited edition DualShock 4 controller released last year, Gamespot reports.
PlayStation Europe confirmed today that the PlayStation 20th Anniversary DualShock 4 controller will be available for purchase standalone in Europe, starting in September of this year. For PlayStation 4 users in North America, Amazon U.S. has already listed the PlayStation 4 DualShock 4 controller for pre-order at their site, to be released on December 31.
The 20th anniversary DualShock 4 controller for PlayStation 4 was first released last year, bundled along with the limited number of 20th Anniversary PlayStation 4 units. Only 12,300 20th Anniversary PlayStation 4 consoles were sold worldwide during its release, and existing and soon-to-be PlayStation 4 users were quite disappointed at that time since they won’t get their hands on the DualShock 4. But it seems that the Xbox One Elite Controller announcement by Microsoft during this year’s E3 conference pressured Sony to push the DualShock 4 commercially for PlayStation 4 users.
The PlayStation 4 DualShock 4 controller, like its limited edition 20th Anniversary PlayStation 4 unit, is available in “original grey,” reminiscent of the color of the very first PlayStation console to hit the markets. Nostalgic PlayStation fans will be ecstatic to get their hands on the DualShock 4 since the controller boasts of a very sleek and wistful design.
The DualShock 4 for PlayStation 4 will feature a highly-sensitive built-in motion sensor and a sleek touch pad, as seen on the photograph. Those who would like to post their PlayStation 4 moments on Facebook will also have an easier way, since an easy Share button is already included on the top right side of the controller.
More good news is, if you decide to purchase the PlayStation 4 DualShock 4, it won’t be too grey and lonely because a matching headset is also coming around. Also in “original grey,” the wireless headset for PlayStation 4 will feature a 7.1 Surround Sound in a 3.5mm audio cable.
As of writing, both the DualShock 4 controller and headset for PlayStation 4 are already listed at Amazon for pre-order. The DualShock 4 controller is listed for $64.99 and the headset for $99.99, both coming with free shipping, and will be released on December 31, 2015.
Sony released the 20th Anniversary PlayStation 4 console and controller in December, 2014, to celebrate PlayStation One’s launch in Japan in December, 1994, and the units were reportedly sold out in minutes.
