Cara Delevingne Suicide: Model Gets Candid About Depression, Admits She Almost Committed Suicide
Cara Delevingne got candid about depression, admitting that she almost committed suicide when she was a teenager. According to Gossip Cop, the model says that she is still battling depression, but that it was particularly bad when she was younger. She has harmed herself and at one point even contemplated taking her own life.
The interview is featured in the new issue of Vogue Magazine, which features Cara on the cover.
“I never cut, but I’d scratch myself to the point of bleeding. I just wanted to dematerialize and have someone sweep me away. I smoked a lot of pot as a teenager, but I was completely mental with or without drugs… I thought that if I wanted to act, I’d need to finish school, but I got so I couldn’t wake up in the morning. The worst thing was that I knew I was a lucky girl, and the fact that you would rather be dead… you just feel so guilty for those feelings, and it’s this vicious circle.”
Cara Delevingne, 22, says that she turned to partying to keep herself occupied. She says that she always needed to be around people just to get her mind off being depressed. She says that she did what was asked of her when it came to work. She went to photoshoots and showed up where her agents told her to go. She describes it as being a “machine” that she “wasn’t controlling.”
Delevingne says that there was one point where she strongly considered ending her life.
“It’s like, if anything is good for too long, I prefer to ruin it. I was packing my bags, and suddenly I just wanted to end it. I had a way, and it was right there in front of me.”
According to the Mail Online, Delevingne says that love has really helped her through (she is currently dating St. Vincent).
“I think that being in love with my girlfriend is a big part of why I’m feeling so happy with who I am these days. And for those words to come out of my mouth is actually a miracle. It took me a long time to accept the idea, until I first fell in love with a girl at 20 and recognized that I had to accept it.”
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Cara has also found some solid friendships to help her through. For example, she’s close to country star Taylor Swift.
