Tucker Max has officially been rejected by Planned Parenthood in Texas. The self-admitted womanizer and heavy-drinker reportedly offered a Texas Planned Parenthood clinic $500,000, in exchange for a building named after him (and a huge tax break). Understandably, considering his reputation for treating women horribly, as well as a recent tweet he posted, but later deleted, they declined.
The tweet stated, “In South Florida. This place is awful. Shitty design, slutty whores & no culture, like a giant Planned Parenthood waiting room.” No wonder the Dallas, Texas branch, who apparently was initially interested in the proposal, changed their minds.
This was not the first degrading comment that Max wrote about the clinic, which offers free health care services to women in need. He also wrote in July of 2011 that, “Planned Parenthood would be cooler if it was a giant flight of stairs w/someone pushing girls down, like a water park slide.”
What company, after seeing derogatory statements like this, would want his name on their building? They released a public statement about the rejection of Tucker Max’s donation, stating:
“We appreciate the generosity of our supporters, and take seriously our role as financial stewards of contributions, grants, and government funding. Like many nonprofits, Planned Parenthood reserves the right to decline offers of gifts and grants that may be discriminatory, are for purposes outside of our mission, or are too difficult to administer.”
The group refused to comment about why the donation was rejected. The donation offer comes at a time when Planned Parenthood of Texas is in financial shambles. Texas governor Rick Perry recently helped a law go through, which prohibited state funds from going to clinics which also offer abortions. Because of this, the Women’s Health Program of Texas lost $35 million in government support money.
While Planned Parenthood’s decision to reject the donation may be under fire from people who believe the organization should have accepted the donation (namely Max’s PR representative Ryan Holiday, who posted a rant on Forbes.com about the rejection), Jill Felipovic of Feministe supports the organization’s decision. She wrote:
“Trying to bolster the career of a misogynist narcissist at the expense of an organization that is already teetering on the brink, and then crying foul — and attempting a public shaming- when the organization protects itself so that it can continue to provide much-needed help to people who need more fundamental assistance than a new image and a tax break? That’s disgusting and transparently self-serving. And doesn’t do much to counter the perception that Tucker Max and his team are, in fact, a bunch of total fucking shitbags.”
Lucky for Tucker Max, he found somewhere else to make his donations (and get his tax break). Ryan Holiday wrote in an email later that:
“Since Planned Parenthood wasted so much of our time, and frankly treated Tucker poorly, he ended up making donations to several other charities instead.”
