The Current Contract Status Of ‘The Avengers’ And Other Characters In The Marvel Cinematic Universe
The characters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) have been in our lives for a few years now, and will be there for a few more. Still, all contracts must end so it’s time to check the current status of the main players after Avengers: Age of Ultron, and see how much longer they’ll be around.
There are still a lot of films coming for Marvel, and with DC Comics upping their schedule too, there’s not much time for fans to catch their breath.
It was well known that most of the Avengers signed lengthy deals that were per-picture contracts. That includes Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, and the other big names. They’re not gone just yet, it’s interesting seeing what they have left.
Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man
Marvel Contract: Seven films
Completed Films: Five – Iron Man, Iron Man 2, The Avengers, Iron Man 3, and Avengers: Age of Ultron
Upcoming Films: RDJ will definitely be in both parts of Infinity War, but he signed on specifically for Captain America: Civil War so he could very well keep just signing on as the roles are presented to him.
Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America
Marvel Contract: Six films
Completed Films: Four – Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Avengers: Age of Ultron— His cameo in Thor: The Dark World didn’t count against his contract.
Upcoming Films: Captain America: Civil War is obviously up next, but that would mean he will only be in one part of Infinity War. Depending on how the storyline goes, expect Disney and Marvel to offer up whatever it takes if he’s to be in both parts unless it’s only counted as one film.
Chris Hemsworth as Thor
Marvel Contract: Six films
Completed Films: Four; Thor, The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World, and Avengers: Age of Ultron
Upcoming Films: Summer of 2017 will bring forth Thor: Ragnarok, and then he will be in one or both parts of Avengers: Infinity War.
Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk
Marvel Contract: Six films
Completed Films: Two – The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron; His small appearance in Iron Man 3 didn’t count against his contract.
Upcoming Films: It’s likely that he will be in Infinity War, and he’s teased appearing in Captain America: Civil War too. Rumors have him possibly showing up in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, but only talk at this point.
Scarlet Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow
Marvel Contract: Movie-to-movie
Completed Films: Four – Iron Man 2, The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Avengers: Age of Ultron
Upcoming Films: She’s going to be in Captain America: Civil War, and she will be in either one or both parts of Infinity War. There is still some talk of a solo Black Widow movie, but it’s not on the schedule yet.
Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye
Marvel Contract: Four films
Completed Films: Two – The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron; His cameo appearance in Thor didn’t count against his contract.
Upcoming Films: Hawkeye is in Captain America: Civil War, and he will be in Infinity War. There has been talk of a solo Hawkeye movie, but it doesn’t appear to be a Marvel priority just yet.
Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury
Marvel Contract: Nine Films
Completed Films: Seven – Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Avengers: Age of Ultron
Upcoming Films: He is not in Captain America: Civil War, and Jackson has already voiced his displeasure at that fact. Jackson has also stated that he wants to extend his Marvel contract, and will at least be in Infinity War Parts One and Two.
Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa/Black Panther
Marvel Contract: Five films
Completed Films: None
Upcoming Films: His debut is coming up in Captain America: Civil War next year, and his solo movie Black Panther will be coming out in 2018. Expect him to also play a big part in Infinity War.
Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon
Marvel Contract: Not known, but it is for multiple movies.
Completed Films: Two – Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Age of Ultron
Upcoming Films: Captain America: Civil War is on the immediate horizon, and he’s due to play a large role. Fans can likely expect him in Avengers: Infinity War as well, unless something drastic happens.
Tom Hiddleston as Loki
Marvel Contract: Six films
Completed Films: Three – Thor, The Avengers, and Thor: The Dark World
Upcoming Films: It looks as if his contract will be fulfilled with Thor: Ragnarok and then both parts of Avengers: Infinity War.
Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord
Marvel Contract: Not known, but it is for multiple movies.
Completed Films: One – Guardians of the Galaxy
Upcoming Films: Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will hit theaters in May of 2017, but there’s more in store for the popular Star-Lord. With Thanos’ involvement, we may see him and the other Guardians in Avengers: Infinity War.
Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier
Marvel Contract: Nine films
Completed Films: One – Captain America: The Winter Soldier; His official Marvel contract wasn’t yet in place so his first appearance in Captain America: The First Avenger doesn’t count.
Upcoming Films: Captain America: Civil War is going to be a huge part for him, but no clue after that. Nine films means he will have a big part in the MCU, though.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) already has had a successful run, but there is so much more on the way. The contracts of The Avengers and others may be up in the coming years, but more stars are in line to step up.
