WWE Rumor: John Cena Pushing For Match With The Undertaker At ‘Wrestlemania 32’?
With WWE intent on setting both an attendance record and putting forth a memorable Wrestlemania, current United States champion John Cena is allegedly lobbying the company for a match against the Undertaker at Wrestlemania 32, according to Sports-Kings.
Since Wrestlemania is set to take place at AT&T Stadium in Texas, the massive venue will need more than a marquee match to fill the stadium, but rather a marquee show. Therefore, the current face of the WWE going up against the most celebrated performer in the events history would give the audience a clash of titans that many have been asking to see for years.
At 37, Cena is in the midst of arguably his most athletically challenging championship reign as the multiple time world champion is defending his United States championship on a weekly basis, mostly against younger, more agile, and speedier competition. However, despite the uneven speed, Cena has been able to retain the championship.
As for Undertaker, we have not seen the “Deadman” since he defeated the “Eater of Worlds” Bray Wyatt at Wrestlemania 31, bringing his Wrestlemania record to 22-1. A litany of the fan base of WWE clamored at prospect of a John Cena vs. Undertaker match at Wrestlemania. However, that one reason the fans wanted to see the match is dead.
Before suffering a loss to Brock Lesnar last year, ending his undefeated Wrestlemania streak in the process, the Undertaker’s streak had never truly been in doubt. But a match with Cena would have given a match between the two men an added edge. With Cena being the face of WWE, there was a possibility that Cena would be a viable option to end the streak.
But now that the streak is no longer intact, a match between Cena and Undertaker may end up as match better to be dreamed about than seen. If Undertaker won a potential match, he would not gain much. However, if Cena won, it could spark a backlash considering the fact Cena’s losses are few and far in between.
As Sports-Kings report also mentions, if this proposed Cena vs Undertaker match does happen, the fans dream of between Sting and the Undertaker would be all but dead. However, their report does mention that there is a possibility both men wrestle sooner than Wrestlemania, naming Survivor Series as a possibility.
With rumored names such as Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin, Sting, The Undertaker, Ronda Rousey and the Rock all in the mix for Wrestlemania 32 season, it would not be a shock to see the “Lord of Darkness” square-off against the “Doctor of Thuganomics” in a dream match.
