Chivalrous President Obama Holds Umbrella For Staffers
Even though he is one of the most powerful individuals in the world, President Barack Obama isn’t one to let this power go to his head — and this was perfectly showcased when the chivalrous Barack Obama decided to break protocol and share his umbrella with his fellow staffers as they disembarked from Marine One.
President Barack Obama was arriving back at the White House in Washington, D.C., from Camden, New Jersey, on Monday, when the incident was captured. You can check out footage of President Barack Obama acting chivalrous below.
The clip, which was originally captured by ABC News, has proved to be rather popular, and it has, in fact, been viewed over 110,000 times since it was uploaded on Monday.
Protocol usually dictates that once Marine One lands on the South Lawn, President Barack Obama has to be inside the White House before his staff follow him.
But after President Barack Obama landed on the South Lawn of his famous abode, he exited Marine One and immediately realized that he was the only one who had an umbrella in his hand.
And as a rain shower drenched the American capital, President Obama decided that he wouldn’t let two of his staffers, who were onboard the helicopter alongside him, get caught up in the downpour.
According to UPI, President Barack Obama held the umbrella up for Valerie Jarrett, who works as a Senior Adviser to the President, and Anita Breckenridge, the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operation, as they exited.
Surprisingly, this isn’t the first time that a video of Barack Obama and an umbrella has gone viral. While he was giving a speech at the Rose Garden in May, 2013, Obama asked two marines to stand alongside him and his guest, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and hold up umbrellas.
The above video has been watched close to 2.5 million times, while President Obama impressively managed to make the above request without coming across as rude.
