Miley Cyrus Genderqueer? Singer Reveals Her Gender Identity And Sexuality
Miley Cyrus wants to put a stop to labels. But that’s not stopping her from talking about her gender identity and sexual orientation. In a recent interview with the Associated Press, the “Wrecking Ball” singer hinted that she’s bisexual. Not all of Miley’s relationships were with high-profiled men! It looks like most of her same-sex relationships went under the radar.
Cyrus, 22, recently launched the Happy Hippie Foundation to help create awareness to LGBT youth. During her telephone interview, the performer admitted that her past relationships were not all “straight, heterosexual” relationships. Cyrus didn’t further elaborate on her relationships, but it’s obvious that she outed herself as bisexual.
That’s not all the singer is revealing lately. In an interview with Out magazine on Tuesday, Miley said that she struggled with her gender identity in the past.
“I didn’t want to be a boy. I kind of wanted to be nothing. I don’t relate to what people would say defines a girl or a boy, and I think that’s what I had to understand: Being a girl isn’t what I hate, it’s the box that I get put into.”
Cyrus even took to Instagram to post the exact quote from her interview. She included the caption: “NOTHING can/will define me! Free to be EVERYTHING!!!!”
You could say that Miley is just being Miley these days. She doesn’t want to be labeled when it comes to her sexuality or her gender identity. That hasn’t stopped some of Miley’s fans from wondering if she’s coming out as both bisexual and genderqueer.
Genderqueer is the umbrella term for gender identities that are not mutually feminine or masculine. Genderqueer people may identify themselves as having more than one gender, having no gender, fluctuating between genders (genderfluid), or by not placing a name to their gender.
Meanwhile, other fans think that Cyrus simply doesn’t want to conform to society’s expectations of constitutes girlhood or womanhood. Some fans noted that not conforming to gender expectations doesn’t always mean you’re genderqueer. If Cyrus was truly genderqueer, then she would come out and say so. That still hasn’t stopped fans from speculating about her gender identity. Some have noted that Cyrus’ fans should not be quick to label her when she hasn’t done so herself.
Then again, it is Miley Cyrus. The entertainer has done many things to create shock and to have people talk about her. The Inquisitr previously reported about Miley’s constant nudity and her neon pink armpit hair.
