Kaitlyn Walls: Single Mom Loses Job Before First Day Over Facebook Post [Video]
One single mom was ready to start her new job at the Colony Child Development Daycare Center in Colony, TX but surprisingly, she didn’t even get the chance to punch the clock on the first day. Apparently, she was fired before she even got started that day. But, why would an employer fire a new employee before they started working? According to several news reports, her termination is a result of a Facebook post.
According to CBS-DFW, Kaitlyn Walls decided to share a few details about her new job via Facebook. Unfortunately, she had no idea of the consequences she could face for venting online. The 27-year-old single mom revealed she’d gotten a new job at a daycare and she’d be starting her first day at work. Initially there was nothing wrong with the statement, until she made a shocking admission that quickly caught the attention of several Facebook users. Walls admitted that she actually hates being around lots of kids, and it’s probably safe to say that she kept that information to herself during the hiring process in order to get the job.
“I start my new job today, but I absolutely hate working at day care,” Walls wrote via Facebook. “Lol, it’s all good, I just really hate being around a lot of kids.”
The series of events that followed definitely prove some things are better left unsaid. Although she didn’t think much of the post, apparently, many Facebook users weren’t pleased with her statement. She was quite shocked to see some of the hateful responses she received.
During a recent interview with the local news station, Walls revealed she was slammed by Facebook users and repeated called a “dumba–.” Some users even insisted she had the “Bubonic plague.” She also shared her reaction to the brash comments.
“I had all these girls attacking me because I don’t want to be around a lot of kids all the time,” Walls told CBS-DFW. “I actually cried. It really hurt because I wasn’t trying to offend anybody,” she said.
However, that’s not all. Apparently, Facebook users aren’t the only people who read the seemingly offensive status. When the daycare heard about the controversial Facebook post, she was asked not to report to work. “I really needed it really bad,” she said. “I’m a single mom… trying to get out on my own,” she said during the interview.
Later that day, she took to Facebook with another post. Although Walls lost her job, she did admit that she made a grave mistake and that she’s learned a serious lesson about discretion when sharing information via social media. “I’m not going to post anything like it ever. No matter how I feel.” Walls wrote, “Oh man I made a big mistake. I’m so sad. I feel like a failure here looking at my daughter crying because I’m afraid that I’m not going to be able to find a job because of my own stupidity.”
