Mike Tyson Prepares For Las Vegas One-Man Show Debut
Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Elvis, Tom Jones… Mike Tyson? Iron Mike will be following in the footsteps of some of entertainment’s great performers as he prepares to makes his one-man show debut in Las Vegas.
“Mike Tyson: UNDISPUTED TRUTH — Live on Stage” is scheduled for a one-week run starting April 13th at the MGM Grand Hollywood Theater. The LA Times reports that the MGM Theater may decide to extend the run if the show proves to be a hit.
The show will feature Mike Tyson telling stories about his personal life and his career. The show will also feature live music and video clips of Tyson in the ring. Randy Johnson, who created “Elvis the Concert” and “One Night With Janis Joplin,” worked with Tyson to create the script for the show. Johnson said that Mike Tyson’s one-man show will be similar to William Shatner’s “Shatner’s World: We All Just Live In It,” with scripted monologues and video clips.
Johnson said:
“It’s a theater piece, not a lecture, but a real one-man show… The hopes for this are to tour the world — the fan base is staggering.”
Do you think Mike Tyson will make a good Las Vegas lounge act?
Tyson told his own story in the 2009 documentary, “Tyson,” by James Toback. Tyson narrated most of the movie and according to Times critic Kenneth Turan, the champ’s voice was capable of “holding you spellbound with his thoughts on his past. The result is as gripping as a title fight and as mesmerizing as a conversation with a cobra. You may not be happy with everything said, but you will not be bored.”
Here’s a clip from the documentary, “Tyson.”
