Boy George will have his own reality show, with the 1980s rocker taking to television to show his life as he makes the move from London to Hollywood.
The new docu-series comes from the producers of Keeping Up With The Kardashians and The Real World and will feature the larger-than-life Boy George , who had a string of hits in the 1980s with his band, The Culture Club.
The show’s production company, Bunim/Murray Productions, said they have high hopes for the Boy George reality show.
“Boy George is a musical and cultural icon, and it’s about time someone captured his story,” said Gil Goldschein, chairman and CEO of BMP. “We are experts in producing celeb-reality docuseries, and we couldn’t be more excited with the opportunity to tell this story with the right broadcast partner.”
Though he peaked in popularity during the 1980s, Boy George has remained in the public eye since then. In early 2013 the rocker showed up in London with a drastic weight loss , drawing quite a bit of attention.
The rocker, who followed Amelia Freer’s Freer Nutrition plan to drop the weight, wrote as follows..
“5 hour gaps between meals. No coffee or tea, except at meals. Water fizzy water between meals! No bread, sugar!”
The following year he was in the headlines for another reason. The singer announced in 2014 that he had to cancel the highly anticipated Culture Club comeback tour after he developed a polyp on one of his vocal chords. The conditions caused him serious and irreparable damage, leaving Boy George crushed.
He shared the following with fans.
“To say I am devastated barely touches how I feel. I know that those of you who love and support me will understand that this is a decision I just had to make. I will definitely get better, and see you all soon back on tour.”
The tour would have been quite a milestone. Culture Club parted after their string of hits, but in an interview with Irish Central, the singer and songwriter said the band remained “was such a massive part of who [he] was” and he was looking forward to the comeback tour .
“Reforming Culture Club is sort of me getting my house in order … It was another major thing in my life that had been slightly neglected. It was like a room in my house that needed some TLC.”
The 53-year-old has high hopes for the new series as well. Boy George said of his new reality show: “If Marge Simpson met Dolly Parton and went dancing with Ziggy Stardust, it wouldn’t come close to what you’ll see.”
