Illegal immigrants are being welcomed to 14 states by Democratic attorneys general. The group of lawmakers are urging a U.S. District judge in Texas to lift his halt order on President Obama’s DACA plan. Yesterday, the group presented an 18-page legal brief to the court of appeals, asking that the injunction stopping the deferred action plan be overturned.
The 14 attorneys general represent California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington. The attorney general from Washington, D.C. also signed the legal filing. The vast majority of the states requesting that illegal immigrants be given what many term as “ amnesty ” have Democratic governors. The states signing onto the DACA injunction appeal with Republican governors include New Mexico, Massachusetts, Iowa, Maryland, and Illinois.
California Attorney General Kamala Harris had this to say about the DACA injunction.
“President Obama has proposed common sense actions that will help fix our broken immigration system and enhance California’s economy and public safety. With over one million hard-working Californians eligible for deferred action, our state has a major stake in the successful implementation of the President’s immigration actions. I wholeheartedly join my colleagues in urging the Fifth Circuit to issue a stay so that California families can immediately begin to come out from under the shadows and enjoy the American Dream.”
Under President Obama’s DACA plan, illegal immigrants who broke federal law by entering the United States illegally will not be prosecuted or deported.
An excerpt from the court filing requesting an end to the DACA injunction which would allow illegal aliens to remain in America without penalty reads as follows.
“A single state cannot dictate national immigration policy, yet that is what the district court allowed here. Relying entirely on Texas’s speculative claims, the district court enjoined vital immigration reforms nationwide. Those reforms will benefit millions of people and their families, as well as the states in which they reside. This Court should stay the district court’s order because the United States is likely to prevail on the merits of its appeal, the stay will not harm Plaintiffs, and a stay is overwhelmingly in the public interest.”
As previously reported by the Inquisitr , U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents captured more than 2,000 criminal illegal aliens earlier this week.
A total of 2,059 illegal immigrants were arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents during the sweep. The crimes committed by the individuals who entered the country illegally include child pornography, robbery, manslaughter, robbery, and rape, according to ICE officials. A little less than 1,000 of the criminal illegal aliens captured by the agents had been convicted on DUI charges.
