WWE News: Vince McMahon Mocks Upset WWE Fans, Says ‘Royal Rumble’ Controversy Was Good For Business
During WWE’s financial earnings call on February 12, which was held to discuss WWE’s 2014 fourth quarter earnings and the growth of the WWE Network, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon mocked all of the WWE fans who were upset with the finish of the Royal Rumble, and said that he was never at any point worried about losing subscribers to the WWE Network due to the fans’ displeasure with WWE’s current direction.
When entering the question and answer portion of the conference call, someone asked McMahon about the finish of the Royal Rumble and his reaction to the fans’ reaction. McMahon responded to the question by saying that the response from the WWE fans was good because it created controversy. McMahon also compared the upset WWE fans to a kid on Christmas who was upset because “Santa Claus didn’t show up.”
When McMahon was asked about fans on Twitter threatening to cancel their WWE Network subscription, he laughed and said that he knew better than that. McMahon added that WWE fans around the world would be glued to their television the very next night.
McMahon has every reason to believe that the finish of the Royal Rumble was “good for business,” as the very next day it was announced that the WWE Network had reached one million subscribers worldwide. This coming after #CancelWWENetwork was the number one trend in the world for more than 24 hours.
Vince McMahon has come under fire over the last two years and been called out-of-touch by fans and former WWE superstars. McMahon suggests that he’s not out-of-touch and that he always listens to the WWE fans.
After the Royal Rumble controversy, there were reports that McMahon wasn’t going to put WWE fan favorite Daniel Bryan in the WrestleMania main event like he did last year because he felt it would be going to the well one too many times. Well, it appears that McMahon has changed his tune, and is planning on adding Bryan to the WWE Championship main event at WrestleMania, making it a triple-threat match between Roman Reigns, Daniel Bryan, and the WWE Champion Brock Lesnar.
At next weekend’s Fast Lane pay-per-view, WWE fans will likely get a better idea of what the WrestleMania main-event will be, as Daniel Bryan will be taking on Roman Reigns, and the winner of that match will go on to face Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania.
