The Philadelphia Eagles are rumored to be interested in oft-injured Tennessee Titans quarterback Jake Locker, with coach Chip Kelly reportedly believing he can turn around the first-round bust and make him a possible replacement for Nick Foles.
Locker ended each of the last two seasons on the bench after suffering serious injuries, and league sources believe the Titans are ready to turn the page and let Locker leave when he becomes an unrestricted free agent later this year.
According to NJ.com , the Philadelphia Eagles may have Locker a chance.
“Oft-injured, first-round bust Jake Locker, who will be an unrestricted free agent next month, could have a potential suitor in the Eagles. At least, that is the informed opinion of a long-time player agent, who has another quarterback about to be a free agent. According to the agent, who requested anonymity, there will be interest from the Eagles and head coach/personnel czar Chip Kelly in the 8th overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft.”
The Eagles could be in need of some depth at the quarterback position. Though Nick Foles is expected to go into the 2015 season with the starting job intact, behind him there are more question marks. Last year’s backup, Mark Sanchez , is also a free agent and could be picked up by another team hoping for him to start.
Sanchez started eight games last year, throwing for 2,418 yards and 14 touchdowns along with 11 interceptions.
The Eagles might see good potential in Jake Locker. He has shown good athleticism when he’s healthy, and could be a good fit in coach Chip Kelly’s system. And most importantly, after years of injury problems, he could come at a low price.
The Eagles may have some competition for Jake Locker. There are a handful of teams desperate at quarterback, meaning Locker could actually get a chance to start next year. The Buffalo Bills , who lost last year’s starter Kyle Orton to retirement, could also be looking for a veteran to challenge third-year quarterback E.J. Manuel.
The Philadelphia Eagles could have even bigger plans for the quarterback position. There have been widespread rumors that they could be trading Nick Foles , with the St. Louis Rams emerging as a possible trade partner. If that is true, then Jake Locker could be a candidate to start next year.
