‘Borderlands’ Fans Receive Free In-Game Loot As ‘Borderlands 3’ Is Announced As A Current-Gen Exclusive
More details were announced regarding the next installment of Gearbox Software’s popular Borderlands franchise during an earnings call that took place earlier this week for the game’s parent company. Gamespot reported that Take-Two Interactive President Karl Slatoff confirmed to investors that the new Borderlands project is being created “specifically for next-gen consoles.”
The announcement confirms that the recently released Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will be the final entry of the loot-based shooter to appear on last-gen consoles, since the next Borderlands game will be heading only to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. This is the second time that fans have heard any details surrounding another entry in the Borderlands series. The first was Gearbox Software’s open call to experienced developers last month in which it was revealed that the studios is now looking to hire a team to begin work on a new Borderlands title.
While new information on the next Borderlands confirms that the co-op franchise will make the move to current-gen platforms, Gearbox Software continues to reward fans of the series’ last-gen installments with new gifts of free in-game equipment. The game’s official Twitter account released new SHiFT codes that will reward players with five golden keys for use inside Borderlands 2. The golden keys can then be used within the game to open a special loot chest that is guaranteed to contain rare, level-appropriate gear for the vault hunter who accessed it.

Additionally, in honor of the newly released Lady Hammerlock DLC for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, fans were also given new SHiFT codes this week that are good for three golden keys in the new Borderlands adventure that takes place on Pandora’s moon. The codes for The Pre-Sequel were released in a tweet by Gearbox Software President Randy Pitchford. Unlike the Borderlands 2 codes, which will remain active until the end of the weekend, the keys from Pitchford can only be redeemed an limited number of times before becoming inactive.

Also hoping to please fans of the existing Borderlands games, Gearbox Software release a new title update on the Playstation 3 version of the original Borderlands game. As recently reported by the Inquisitr, the new patch returned multiplayer functionality to the PS3 after online support of the game was removed with last year’s closure of the GameSpy servers.
Fans will be able to get chance to play Borderlands on new-gen consoles this March with the remastered release of The Handsome Collection, which will bundle both Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel for re-release on the Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
