7-Year-Old Kangaroo Attack Victim Still Wants to be a Veterinarian
A kangaroo attack in Australia had a 7-year-old girl fearing for her life. Makayla McEvoy was playing at the Wyangala Dam near Sydney when a kangaroo charged her, pinned her, and repeatedly kicked her.
McEvoy said:
“(I was) very, very scared. I thought I was going to die. All I could see was grey, grey, grey.”
The girl’s mother described the ordeal, saying:
“It just jumped on her back and knocked her to the ground and started. It was just jumping up and jumping up on top of her and scratching her.”
ABC reports that the kangaroo attack only ended because the girl’s stepfather, Mitch McGovern, intervened.
“As I jumped over the top of Makayla to get rid of the kangaroo, all I could see was she was laying, sort of, face down on the ground with her shirt was all ripped, and her back was cut. There was no noise, I thought the worst. Honestly, I thought she was dead. She didn’t make any noise. She didn’t scream for help.”
The little girl was rushed to the hospital where she was treated for cuts, scratches, and bruises all over her body. But despite the scary ordeal, Makayla still says that she “loves animals” and wants to be a veterinarian.
The kangaroo attack occurred at the Wyangala Dam, a popular picnic area near Sydney. Sky News reports that grey kangaroos can grew as tall as nine feet. There are only a handful of kangaroo attacks on record.
Park management at the Wyangala Dam said that they will put up kangaroo warning signs to prevent future attacks.
