Wilson Phillips singer Carnie Wilson may have managed to take off 150 lbs after weight loss surgery twelve years ago, but she says it hasn’t been all smooth sailing since the procedure.
Wilson has opened up ahead of her appearance on ABC’s Celebrity Wife Swap , and says that a lot of her former struggles came to the forefront after the birth of daughter Lola, who is now six. The singer says that the challenges of sobriety posed an additional consideration, and explains how the two go hand in hand:
“I can’t smoke a joint. I can’t have a glass of wine because I want 10 joints and 10 glasses of wine. That’s my obsessive compulsive and addictive behavior. I’ve really struggled since I’ve become sober. How do I balance that? How can I relax and not overeat? Because I have a lot of pressure in my life.”
While Wilson has not regained a significant amount of the weight she lost, she says that she realizes she’s not as thin as she was at her thinnest point. She talks about the stress factor:
“I’ve had so much stress in the last year so it’s really a struggle. I’m definitely up in weight. I’m looking forward to getting an exercise routine again. It’s like a daily decision.”
And, Carnie says, she worries about the genetic component of such struggles when parenting Lola. The 43-year-old star explains:
“Lola knows I struggle with it. I see Lola loving sugar like all the other children but I also see her pay a little more attention like when there’s a birthday party, I see her being the first in line to get the cake. I see me in her. I think she’s going to be all right as long as we’re in control of this. She is an active child.”
Wilson will appear on Celebrity Wife Swap tonight.
