New Year’s Resolutions: Three Things People Will Strive for in 2012
What do you want to accomplish in 2012? Millions of people around the world will be making new years resolutions tonight in an attempt to better themselves in the 2012. So what do people want to accomplish in the new year?
Unsurprisingly, the most common new years resolution this year is to lose weight. A recent poll conducted by Mlive found that 37.29 percent said that they wanted to lose weight in the new year. 43Things.com found similar results. The Washington Post also found that getting healthy was the most common New Year’s resolution for 2012.
It isn’t surprising that losing weight is one of the most popular new year’s resolutions. The Obesity rate in the United states continues to climb, and with congress deciding that Pizza is a vegetable earlier this year, it looks like the trend could continue for a long time.

What about saving money? Getting out of debt ranked in the top 6 on all three lists. The economic new year’s resolutions ranged from saving money, to adhering to a budget, to getting out of debt. The unemployment rate has been hovering at about 9% this year so it makes sense that people are being more sensible with their money.
Spending time with family also ranked high on people’s new year’s resolutions list. The Washington Post has more family time ranked third on their list and Mlive says that 11.6% of respondents said that they wanted to appreciate their family more in 2012.
Other popular new year’s resolutions in 2012 were to quit smoking, read more, get organized, have more fun, and learn something new.
