Bible Spice is at it again , and I have to say that while I don’t personally caucus with either major political party, it seems that speaking without thinking is far more pervasive on the right than on the left.
Case in point- Michele Bachmann’s assertion that she ‘heard’ the HPV vaccine made a previously not retarded teenage girl retarded. Or Mittens Romney’s casual $10K wager during a GOP debate in a time where half of Americans are low-income to outright poor. Or Rick Perry’s “Strong” video . Or Rick Perry’s comments on basically everything . Also, witness the Bush presidency.
However, Michelle Bachmann is a special kind of crazy, a blinking blindly and shooing away a child who states uncomfortable truths crazy. And Bachmann isn’t afraid to expose her crazy in the media, counting on a significant portion of Americans to rally behind her simply because she espouses some right positions with both arms- like an opposition to basic civil rights for gay people. Bachmann opened her mouth recently and the stupid flowed forth unchecked, this time accusing several major tech companies and NBC of conspiring to make her look stupid, like she doesn’t do a bang-up job of it her very ownself.
Talking Points Memo recounts Bachmann’s comments on Jan Mickelson’s WHO radio show yesterday. A caller dialed in and said:
“Michele Bachmann is up against not only the other candidates, but up against President Obama, who has Facebook, Twitter, Google, and YouTube in its back pocket. I believe that helped him win the last election. No president should have the monopoly of those companies in their back pocket.”
Bachmann could have dismissed this as unlikely crazy-talk, but instead she replied:
“I absolutely agree, Jonathan. We have seen, whether it is the head of Facebook or Google, it is clear there is an alliance with the Obama administration, as well as with NBC.”
Now remember, this is a woman who is a relatively serious contender for having access to nuclear weapons. Just say no to Michele Bachmann.
