Floyd Mayweather Jr. Could Be Out Of Prison In As Little As 60 Days
American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. was sentenced to 90-days in prison after he took his boxing talent out of the ring last September. Mayweather Jr. plead guilty to battery domestic violence and harassment charges related to an incident in 2010 where he attacked his ex-girlfriend, who is also the mother of his children.
Bleacher Reports notes that the WBC welterweight champion could be out in 60 days. Detention officer Bill Cassell said:
“Good behavior and work time could knock up to 30 days off Mayweather’s sentence.”
Mayweather Jr. was expected to have a Cinco De Mayo fight Manny Pacquiao in 2012, but with at least two months in prison, it doesn’t look like Mayweather Jr. will be able to prepare for the fight. According to Bleacher Reports, Mayweather has only been approved to workout one day a week.
Judge Saragosa didn’t seem to concerned with Mayweather’s workout regime. When the judge handed down the sentence, she said:
“He just continually gets himself into trouble and he is able to get himself out of it as well… Essentially it is because he is who he is and is able to get away with everything. The only thing that’s going to get this man’s attention is incarceration.”
Gossip On This reports that Mayweather could have been sentenced to up to 34-years in prison for attacking his ex-girlfriend, but Mayweather struck a plea deal and was given a rather lenient sentence. On top of his 90-day sentence, Mayweather will also have to complete 100 hours of community service and attend a 12-month domestic violence program.
Do you think Floyd Mayweather Jr. should have received a stricter sentence? Are you hoping for the Mayweather / Pacquio fight to go ahead as planned for Cinco De Mayo?
