New ‘The Walking Dead’ Promo Appears To Show Maggie Greene Giving Daryl Dixon A Death Stare [Video]
For fans of The Walking Dead, time is moving slower than a one-legged Termite victim (RIP, Bob).
Unfortunately, the only thing impatient fans can do right now is carefully analyze Walking Dead promos in hopes of catching a clue or two about what’s coming. The latest preview doesn’t feature a lot of footage that hardcore fans haven’t seen before, but it might reveal where Maggie’s mind will be at when the show returns after the midseason break.
The Huffington Post recently shared the new Walking Dead promo clip below. It begins with a shot of the survivors walking down an abandoned road, and they look pretty hopeless and worn out. Maggie Greene appears to glance back at Daryl Dixon, but cuts in promos for The Walking Dead can be deceptive.
If Maggie does turn around to look at Daryl, why does she do it? She could be giving him a death stare for playing a part in her sister’s demise; it’s possible that she partly blames Daryl for Beth’s death because he backed Tyreese’s rescue plan instead of siding with Rick. However, Maggie’s expression is really hard to read in the slightly blurry video. It could also be seen as reflective, vulnerable, or concerned.
In another scene that was featured in previous Walking Dead promos, Maggie is obviously distraught — she’s sobbing loudly and appears to be alone. Another tense scene shows Rick Grimes’ arm getting dangerously close to a walker’s mouth.
The group of survivors likely won’t lose their leader, but could they lose Maggie? There’s been a lot of talk about how Beth’s death will affect Daryl, but obviously it’s also going to have a huge impact on Maggie. Fansided points out that Maggie attempts suicide in The Walking Dead comic books, and actress Lauren Cohan did say that her character is going to get very “dark” during the second half of Season 5.
“We’re going to see Maggie in a way we have never seen her, and, I think, fighting a dark side that she’s always resisted,” Cohan says in the preview below.
As the Inquisitr previously reported, there are two characters on The Walking Dead who seem to be untouchable: Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes and Norman Reedus’ Daryl Dixon. Creator Robert Kirkman wants fans to believe that no one is safe, but these fan faves probably don’t need to fear the reaper — Lincoln and Reedus keep getting fed juicy story lines that revolve around their characters. It could even be argued that the main purpose of Beth’s death was to give Daryl something new to struggle with. Maggie hasn’t had a lot to do this season, so fans should start getting very concerned if Lauren Cohan suddenly gets a ton of screen time in an upcoming episode.
There is a ray of hope for Maggie, as Norman Reedus revealed that he has a little crush on Lauren, so maybe he’ll convince The Walking Dead writers to kill off Glenn so that Daryl can score a new love interest.
Do you think Maggie Greene will try to commit suicide, or will she find another way to deal with her grief (like hooking up with a redneck) when The Walking Dead returns on February 8, 2015?
