Viagra and Romney, Both Endorsed By Bob Dole
Mitt Romney and Viagra have something in common these days, Bob Dole is endorsing both of them. The Republican nominee to run against Bill Clinton in 1996 feels that Romney is the right person to challenge sitting president Barack Obama for the presidency next year.
He wrote an open letter to Iowa voters to get behind the Massachusetts Republican and walk with him to victory in 2012.
“A number of my friends are currently candidates seeking the GOP nomination. But the time has now come for us to decide who among them can defeat Barack Obama in 2012. I’ve made my decision, and I believe our best hope lies in Governor Mitt Romney,” Dole wrote.
“As President, Mitt Romney will succeed in turning this country around,” he wrote. “He rescued a flailing Winter Olympics when it was mired in financial scandal. He was an exceptional Governor of Massachusetts, who managed to both balance the state’s budget and cut taxes while dealing with an overwhelmingly Democratic state legislature.”
Dole’s endorsement does not come as much of a surprise. Although Dole was the Senate Majority Leader during Gingrich’s tenure in the house he and then Speaker Gingrich were usually at odds with each other. Dole was a much more compromising figure while Gingrich tended to be more of a fiery partisan.
Do you think Dole’s endorsement will help or hurt Romney?
