Hulu and Discovery Communications have struck a deal that will make a lot of reality television fans quite happy from the sounds of things. Shows such as The Little Couple, Mythbusters and Deadliest Catch will be available on the streaming service soon.
As TV By the Numbers notes, the shows covered in the new Hulu and Discovery agreement will become available via the premium streaming service in January, 2015. Available shows will come from various Discovery networks including TLC, Animal Planet, Discovery Channel and more.
While many television fans are turning to services such as Hulu, Amazon Prime and Netflix over traditional cable subscriptions, there have been large gaps in the shows made available. The new agreement between Hulu and Discovery Communications will definitely be a game-changer for some reality TV show fans.
As the Wrap notes, a number of shows from Discovery Channel, TLC, Investigation Discovery, Destination America, Science, Animal Planet and Discovery en Espanol will be available to Hulu Plus subscribers beginning on January 1, 2015. Specific shows such as Say Yes to the Dress, Treehouse Masters and a number of others such as fan-favorite The Little Couple , are specifically mentioned.
Will all of the group’s shows, like 19 Kids & Counting for example, be available? Curious fans may need to stay tuned on that front for now, though it seems that just a handful of the network’s offerings will be available to start out with.
New episodes of Little Couple have just started airing on TLC, while more Deadliest Catch episodes are on the way. 19 Kids & Counting is also filming new episodes while both Say Yes to the Dress and 90 Day Fiance are currently airing new episodes. As much as fans love to tune in to the traditional cable networks to catch their favorites, having the flexibility to watch them via Hulu Plus is appealing to many as well.
Will this new deal between Hulu and Discovery Communications drive new customers to the premium streaming service? Many television viewers are keeping an eye on these new agreements as the content available from various networks is widening.
Craig Erwich, the Senior Vice President and Head of Content of Hulu, says that they are looking for “compelling titles that will appeal to our broad audience,” and some of these Discovery and TLC shows certainly fit the bill. He adds that the new agreement brings some of the most popular unscripted series on television to Hulu Plus and fans are definitely anxious to check it out.
The Little Couple is currently airing new episodes Tuesday nights on TLC, and shows will be available on Hulu Plus beginning on January 1.
