Mark Wahlberg Wants To Be A Cop? Actor Needs Clean Record For New Job
Mark Wahlberg reportedly wants to become a reserve cop.
TMZ reports that getting the new job is a major reason why the 43-year-old actor wants to have his criminal record cleared.
One of the biggest barriers blocking Mark Wahlberg from qualifying for this particular position is that he is a felon. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Mark Wahlberg filed legal documents with the Massachusetts Parole Board to formally request the expunging of his felony assault charge from 1988.
At the age of 16, Wahlberg was convicted for beating two men, one of which was left partially blinded. One report confirms that Mark attacked the two men without being provoked. He attacked one with a stick and partially blinded the other by punching him.
In order to join the Los Angeles area police force as a reservist, he needs to have the felony charge cleared, since felons are not able to handle guns — even if it’s for professional reasons.
According to TMZ, Mark Wahlberg is interested in becoming a real-life cop because of the vast research that he did for playing a cop on the big-screen.

The man formerly known as Marky Mark received an Oscar nomination for his work in the 2006 Martin Scorsese film, The Departed.

Mark Wahlberg also played a cop in Max Payne and We Own the Night. He even got a chance to play a hilarious cop alongside Will Ferrell in The Other Guys.
Further reports claim that Wahlberg is even developing a brand new reality show, Port of L.A., which focuses on law enforcement officials policing containers arriving into the country.
If Mark Wahlberg is able to successfully join the police force, he would not be the first actor to make that type of transition.
Actor and NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal was sworn in as a reserve cop for the Golden Beach police force in July of 2013. Actor and reality star Jack Osbourne is also a part of the force in Muncie, Indiana.
Even if the reports of Mark Wahlberg wanting to join the police force are true, his fans should not expect him to give up his acting career any time soon. Wahlberg has quite a few different movies coming out within the next year — including The Gambler and Ted 2 — with a host of other roles in different stages of production.
