Russian Roulette: Indiana Teen Shot Dead Playing Dangerous Game
Russian roulette in Indiana caused the death of one teen, a 17-year-old male who has been identified as former Kokomo High School student Leroy Young. Miami County Sheriff’s office, Indiana State Police, and the Miami County Coroner’s office are actively investigating the Indiana teen’s death, according to WWLP. It appears that the only person who was involved in playing Russian roulette was the boy who was killed, although there were other teens present.
The deceased Kokomo, Indiana, teen was a guest at a home in the 4500 block of West 1300 South Galveston on Thursday, December 4, 2014, when the tragic incident reportedly took place. While several other teens played video games in a bedroom, Young produced a gun, loaded a single round into the weapon’s chamber, spun the cylinder, and held the gun against his temple. When he fired the gun, it launched the sole bullet into his head. The wound was fatal.
Someone made a 911 call to the Miami County Central Dispatch Center just before midnight to report the Indiana teen’s Russian roulette death. Officers from the Miami County Indiana Sheriff’s Office, the Indiana State Police, emergency medical personnel from Dukes Memorial Hospital in Peru, and the Fire Department of Galveston all responded to the scene of the shooting. Young was pronounced dead at the scene, after emergency personnel attempted to revive him to no avail. Residents at the home had also attempted to resuscitate the teen, but their efforts failed.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, another Indiana teen may not survive after being discovered in a padlocked room in her grandfather’s home. The unidentified girl was hospitalized at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis, where she is being treated for severe malnutrition. She weighed only 40 pounds when she was found.
The locked room where she lived was filled with feces and contained only a filthy mattress, blankets, a space heater, a bucket, and a bowl of oatmeal; there was blood on the floor. The malnourished Indiana girl’s grandfather, 58-year-old Steve Sells, was reportedly placed under arrest and faces charges of neglect. His wife, Joetta Sells, was also arrested.
Because Leroy Young was well-known at his former high school, Kokomo High School made extra counselors available to students on Friday, the day after the Indiana teen’s Russian roulette death, the Kokomo Tribute noted in an updated report.
Comments are welcome. Could the Russian roulette death of the teen in Indiana have been prevented?
