Man Rescues Stranded Baby Dolphin: ‘I’ve Never Seen Anything Like This’

An Australian man saved the day for a baby dolphin that got separated from his mama. According to Port Lincoln Times, Andy Wright and his wife, Jo, just happened to be on the beach at Lone Pine when a pod of dolphins caught there attention swimming near the shoreline, near Sleaford.

They decided to park their car and get out for a closer look at the beautiful creatures. After enjoying a time of enjoying watching the pod swimming along the shore, Andy and his wife started walking up a dirt path to get back to their car.

However, Grind TV reports it was at that time Andy happened to look back and spot the baby dolphin who had obviously gotten disoriented in the shallow water and was stranded in the sand.

Wright wasted no time in an effort to help what appeared to be a mere baby approximately a week old.

“I quickly threw the wetsuit on, my wife grabbed the camera and we ran onto the beach.”

Wright picked up the baby mammal, carried it out into the water and pointed it in the direction of the pod that was lingering close by.

Dolphin rescue

Grind TV reports that dolphins are highly social and tend to care for the young ones within their pod. They had no intention of leaving their little one behind.

Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for the baby dolphin to get beached again, much to Wright’s dismay. But, evidently Wright believes in the old adage, “If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again.”

Wright picked up the dolphin once more, walked out a little deeper into the water. When Wright let the baby go the second time, it appeared that it swam directly to and reunited himself with his mother.

Wright, who is actually from the western city of Port Lincoln, described to Port Lincoln Times this amazing adventure, admitting that he never thought he would be involved in any kind of a dolphin rescue.

“I’ve been surfing on the West Coast for 30 years and I’ve seen plenty of dolphins before, but I’ve never seen anything like this. I know they’re very protective and caring for their young.”

Luckily this baby dolphin caught the attention of Andy Wright that day.
