Lil Wayne’s Gang Ties Are Kind Of ‘Laughable,’ Says DJ Quik
Lil Wayne may think of himself as a hardcore gangster, but there are a few people on the planet who aren’t overly impressed with his connections.
For those who are wondering what all the fuss is about, Weezy previously aligned himself with members of the Los Angeles’ Piru Bloods. While Wayne may think his association with the gang improves his street cred, DJ Quik isn’t at all impressed with the rapper’s declarations. In fact, he think Wayne’s ties to the set are nothing short of hilarious.
According to HipHopDX, Quik briefly discussed Lil Wayne’s Blood connections while promoting his upcoming album, The Midnight Life, on Sway in the Morning. According to the DJ, people probably wouldn’t take Weezy’s association with the street gang very seriously. Quik also added Chris Brown’s name to the conversation as well.
“It’s kind of honoring, but it’s laughable too at the same time. They don’t really know what that shit is about. We took that shit way seriously. We were trying to survive through that shit. They got it too easy.”
For his part, HotNewHipHop reports Brown has flatly denied that he has any formal connection with the aforementioned gang. However, apparently he feels he’s earned their respect, and he’s “cordial” with certain members.
“When you’re in L.A. and you’re around people, you meet everybody — you meet Crips, you meet Bloods, especially in this industry that I’m in. I’m not in the country world, I’m not in the all-the-way pop world. [When] you’re in hip-hop, all of that meshes.”
Lil Wayne’s association with the Bloods has caused a handful of problems in the past. The Inquisitr previously reported that Weezy encountered a particularly vocal member of the Crips while hanging out with rumored girlfriend Christina Milan in LA last summer.
As Lil Wayne and Milan were leaving a Hollywood hotspot, someone started shouting at the rapper. However, Weezy didn’t take the bait and kept his head down.
“You better check in n***a. Straight up n***a. Crip n***a. F**k Suge,” the unidentified individual said during the brief exchange.
The Boom Box pointed out that Wayne had a few unnerving encounters with members of the Crips in the past, as a result of his association with the Bloods.
“In 2008, he had a run-in with a different set of Crips members, who were apparently led by rapper 40 Glocc. The Boombox reports that in recent years, the rapper has ‘claimed allegiance to the Bloods,’ making this confrontation with the Crips all the scarier.”
Do you think Lil Wayne’s association with the Bloods is “laughable”?
