‘Dear Kitten’ Returns: New Sequel To Classic Cat Video Offers Cat-Style Advice On Dealing With Dog
Dear Kitten, the super-cute cat commercial that went viral back in June, has a new sequel — and it’s just as hilarious as the first one. This time around, an older cat dispenses advice to his younger, fellow cat regarding the newest member of the household, a cuddly, fluffy puppy.
You can watch the new Dear Kitten video above, and the original at this link.
Like the original, this video is so cute that it has gone instantly viral, rolling up almost 1.3 million views in its first 24 hours since arriving on YouTube. Also like the original Dear Kitten, this new one — aptly titled, Regarding The Dog — was created by the online video factory at BuzzFeed, and features the voice of veteran internet comedian Hosea Jan “Ze” Frank, who now heads up BuzzFeed Video.
Ze Frank, of course, provides the voice of the world-weary older cat who offers his sage wisdom on how the little kitten should adapt to having a dog in the house. Or as the older cat calls it, a “new thing in the house.” It seems the older cat has received some dog education himself. He used to believe that a dog was just another kind of cat — except uglier.
But now he knows better and generously passes his wisdom on to the next generation.
“Imagine a cat,” the older cat tells his naive young friend. “Then take away independence, cleanliness and intelligence. What you have left is basically a dog.”
The older cat also wonders about the origin of the phrase, “A dog is man’s best friend.”
“That is incredible marketing,” the cat marvels. “I don’t know how they did it. They certainly aren’t buying ads in the newspaper.”
Another element this new Dear Kitten sequel has in common with the original — it’s another subtly disguised advertisement for Purina Friskies brand cat food.
But does it really matter what’s being advertised here? Dear Kitten: Regarding the Dog is another entry in the funniest series of cat commercials that cat lovers — and even non-cat people — have ever seen. See if you agree.
