An account linked to terrorist group ISIS recently issued threats of assignation to Twitter employees. Members of the extremist account sympathetic to the Islamic State of Syria and Iraq are angered that workers of the social media site have closed their Twitter accounts with bias.
According to a September 8 Vocativ news report, the ISIS account issued a tweet that named the terror group’s first American target. As the propaganda from the extremist group has largely been directed at political figures like Obama and other world leaders, it is quite ironic that ISIS threatens to kill Twitter employees in the United States.
Information contained in the post says that impetus behind the Islamic State’s latest threat is due to the site’s ongoing selectivity and targeted offensive in closing accounts affiliated with ISIS aka ISIL , in any fashion. This includes groups that proclaim to endorse radical views of Islam and use violence as a means of spreading fear and oppression.
Members of the extremist group, who are already spreading carnage throughout Iraqi and Syrian territories with mass killings and decapitations, are not only threatening to assassinate staff with Twitter — they are using the site as a recruiting tool for membership. However, most strikingly is that ISIS is recruiting “lone wolves” to carry out Jihad on American soil.
A number of ISIS Twitter assassination threats were posted and taken down swiftly. However, some of them have been translated into English.
“#The_Concept_of_Lone_Wolf_Attacks The time has arrived to respond to Twitter’s management by directly attacking their employees and physically assassinating them!! Those who will carry this out are the sleepers cells of death.”
“#The_Concept_of_Lone_Wolf_Attacks Twitter management should know that if they do not stop their campaign in the virtual world, we will the bring the war to them in the real world on the ground.”
“#The_Concept_of_Lone_Wolf_Attacks Every Twitter employee in San Francisco in the United States should bear in mind and watch over himself because on his doorstep there might be a lone wolf assassin waiting.”
“#Attacking_Twitter_Employees is on the agenda of mujahedeen and lone wolves who are across Europe.”
Recently, officials with the Obama Administration said destroying ISIS will take years of a strategic alliance of nation states with a vested interest in stamping out the group’s reign of terror. The president’s plan, to some political pundits, reads like an owner’s manual that takes for granted the enemy will remain still in the midst of a military incursion.
Much of the success of “rolling back” the Islamic State depends on an inclusive government with the newly-installed Iraqi leadership, an unorthodox and arm’s-length reciprocity with Syria and Iran — as well as ongoing condemnation from Saudi nations.
Meanwhile, the cat and mouse game with Twitter continues, as ISIS-linked accounts vanish but later return under new usernames. Because there is no likely means of determining when and where these radical accounts crop up, the whack-a-mole with ISIL will likely continue.
Stay tuned for more on this developing story about death threats to Twitter employees.
