The illegal immigrant children crisis may lead to immigration reform in one form or another, but some Republicans fear President Obama’s executive order powers may be used to give illegal aliens amnesty in the coming weeks right before the 2014 mid-term elections.
In a related report by The Inquisitr , the political debate has been focused on changing the terminology used to describe the people crossing the Mexican border. Illegal immigrant children are like “baby Jesus” or “Moses” , according to Nancy Pelosi Some people even believe parents who spank their children are indirectly responsible for the flood of illegal alien children. Others are blaming former President George W. Bush for the current immigration problems faced by the nation.
One thing is for certain: The illegal immigrant children are not going to be deported any time soon based upon the current political climate, and some reports say these illegal alien kids will soon be in classrooms through the United States. Some members of the Republican Party believe the crisis may be come permanent if President Obama offers the illegal immigrant children amnesty.
For example, Iowa Republican Rep. Steve King , a member of the House Judiciary Committee, believes Obama may use his executive order powers in order to force his vision for immigration reform:
“I’m very concerned that he might do that. The information that I’m getting is that he was likely to, but now there’s a sense that the timing of it might mean that he may be a little less or even on whether he does the stroke of his pen. [If Obama] uses his pen to conduct the business of the United States Congress while we’re out of session, it will bring about a Constitutional crisis. The president doesn’t command the Congress as a law. He needs to come and say, ‘I’d like to have you pass this because I think it’s good for the country’, use his persuasive powers and not the intimidation powers.”
If Obama does offer amnesty or bypasses Congress again to address the issue, King believes Congress should return from vacation to enter a special session to deal with the crisis.
In the meantime, Vice President Joe Biden claims American shouldn’t view the unaccompanied children showing up at the border as someone else’s children. Instead, Biden claims “these are kids” and that the U.S. should not consider deporting children back to a bad environment. Biden has been fighting to have illegal immigrant children be given federally funded lawyers in order to help them stay in America.
Currently, because illegal immigration is a civil offense, not a criminal offense, even children will not have lawyers to represent them in court. Of the 10 percent who actually appear in court, 90 percent are deported. The remaining 90 percent choose to flee into the United States and disappear.
Do you think the illegal immigrant children should receive amnesty? What would you think if President Obama bypasses Congress with an executive order?
