Nicki Minaj is well known for her wild antics and outrageous outfits, but her diva attitude might force her to fork over $50,000 in a lawsuit that was recently filed. According to court filings, Nicki was late to a scheduled performance and, according to the plaintiff, was only on stage for about 30 minutes.
Many musicians have showed up late to performances, some of whom redeemed themselves via an amazing concert, but Nicki Minaj’s performance didn’t live up to expectations. After arriving 90 minutes late to the performance, her 30 minute performance was lackluster, at best. The producers, IMP Entertainment, booked her for the NBA All-Star Event. According to her contract, she was supposed to show up at midnight and perform for an hour. Nicki’s contract shows that she was to be paid a total of $53,050 for the brief performance. As a result of the failure to meet the terms of the contract, IMP Entertainment is suing Nicki Minaj for $50,000.00.
At this time there has been no comment from the Nicki Minaj camp.
Nicki’s diva attitude shined bright like a diamond on American Idol , where the mega pop star and rapper butted heads with super diva Mariah Carey many times over trivial ordeals. Their diva feud added a layer of excitement that was missing from the show since the exit of Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul, along with their strange sexual and bickering tensions. Nicki Minaj more than made up for both types of tension on the show, flirting with more boys that Stephen Tyler did to the girls and cat fighting more than an angry Simon Cowell in a tight shirt.
Nicki Minaj is not stranger to law suits. In May, her former “Wig Guru,” Terence Davidson, slapped a lawsuit against Nicki for thievery. According to his lawsuit, she not only flaunted his designs at every opportunity, she also stole the designs for her own use. In the process, Terence lost the opportunity to have his own reality show. Nicki Minaj denied the claims and is seeking to have the $30 million dollar lawsuit dismissed by the courts.
Despite obtaining diva status, Nicki Minaj is not immune to the demands of contractual agreements. It will be up to the courts to decide whether she is truly guilty, or if the demand for $50,000 is adequate repayment for her unprompted demeanor. Only time will tell if the lawsuit will end her masquerade or if she will fall like dominoes as a result.
