This has been a rather depressing week, news-wise, with Robin Williams dying, the situation in Iraq, Tony Stewart running over another driver, and riots in the streets of Ferguson, Missouri. So we can all use a little pick-me-up, and YouTube user Mylo the Cat has come through in a big way with this video of The Muppets doing a mashup of The Beastie Boys’ 1992 song “What’cha Want?”
If you’re not really clear on what a “mashup” is, it’s a video that includes matching the audio of one source with the video of another source, often to hilarious effect. According to AV Club , Mylo the Cat’s alter-ego has done Muppets mashups before, but none have been as big as “What’cha Want.” As of this post, the video has over 500,000 hits on YouTube, after being posted just a few days ago (August 11th, to be exact).
The timing in this video is stunning; Mylo manages to perfectly sync up the Muppets’ facial and body movements to the words and music in the song. It is, although, a little unsettling watching The Swedish Chef, Animal, and Beaker – three Muppets known mainly for speaking in gibberish – vocalizing in a way that makes sense.
The original clip, which can be seen below, involves the three Muppets singing “Danny Boy.” OK, so “singing” maybe isn’t the right word.
Mylo’s video ends with the hashtag #ripMCA – s shoutout to the Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch, who went by the stage name MCA. MCA died tragically in 2012 at the age of 47 (see this Inquisitr article).
