Katie Holmes To Quit Acting?
Katie Holmes plans to extend her backstage Hollywood portfolio as she takes on the producing role for the film adaptation of a drama novel entitled All We Had. Multiple sources have reported that the Dawson’s Creek star has already optioned the rights of the novel, written by first-time author Annie Weatherwax. Katie reportedly expressed plans to produce the debut novel’s movie adaptation, according to the New York Post.
This isn’t Katie’s first time to produce a film. Back in 2010, Holmes was the executive producer of a rom-com entitled The Romantics. Katie also took on the leading role alongside Josh Duhamel and Anna Paquin. Although the film didn’t do well in the box office, the movie marked Holmes’ very first albeit unsuccessful shot at movie production.
Katie Holmes seems to have taken a liking for obscure novels. The Romantics was based on a novel by Galt Niederhoffer, who also wrote the screenplay and directed the movie. This year, Holmes is rumored to have negotiated a contract with Weatherwax for a film adaptation of her novel All We Had.
The book follows the story of 13-year-old Ruthie and her single mom Ruth as they escape a life of poverty and abuse and search for a place they can call home. The two land at a town called Fat River and find an unlikely family in the local residents.
Holmes’ interest in film production had fans wondering if Katie is planning to leave acting for good. Katie Holmes started to gain fame in the teen drama Dawson’s Creek, where she played Joey Potter, the show’s de facto lead character. She then appeared in bigger projects like Batman Begins, Jack and Jill and in popular sitcoms like How I Met Your Mother.
But recently, Katie appears to have made herself busy backstage, driving fans to speculate if she’s planning to stay away from the cameras for good for a cushy role behind the screen. However, there seems to be no indication that this will happen. Katie Holmes is currently filming The Woman In Gold, where she plays one of the supporting characters. Helen Mirren and Ryan Reynolds play the lead roles in this historicaldrama about a Jewish refugee named Maria Altmann.
It hasn’t been confirmed if Katie Holmes will also play the lead role for All We Had, but fans are excited to see how the movie adaptation of the well-received novel turns out.
