Adele, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga Come Up Big at 2011 MTV Video Music Awards
The 2011 MTV Video Music Awards went down last night offering a hearty dose of flying men, pregnancy reveals, profanity laced rap performances, and even an Amy Winehouse Tribute, thrown in for good measure.
When the proverbial smoke cleared, however, artists Adele, Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga, came out on top, as all three grabbed multiple “Moonmen” during the event held at LA’s Nokia Theatre.
Perry’s “Firework” won for Video of the Year, and she also took home a moon man along with Kanye West for Best Collaboration for their sci-fi fantasia “E.T.” During her acceptance speech for best collab, Perry jokingly recalled a previous VMAs show incident when she told her co-winner, “Now this is the time when you want to interrupt me, Kanye!”
Lady Gaga — who spent the entire night dressed as her male alter ego, Jo Calderone — won two awards – Best Female Video and Best Video with a Message – for her song “Born This Way.”
The evening’s big winner, however, was Adele. In addition to delivering an amazing performance of Someone Like You, the 23-year-old Brit rocked the awards show by taking home four Moonmen – Best Editing, Best Direction, Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography – for the video of her hit single “Rolling in the Deep.”
