Ben Stiller Welcomes Beastie Boy ‘Ad-Rock’ In New Film
Ben Stiller will be seen on screen next to a very familiar face in the music world. It’s being reported that former Beastie Boy member Ad-Rock is featured in Stiller’s next new film, which was just announced on the slate for Toronto International Film Festival.
Adam Horovitz, known as Ad-Rock, has joined Ben Stiller and Naomi Watts for the upcoming film While We’re Young from Noah Baumbach, who directed the critically well-received film Frances Ha.
According to Spin, Ad-Rock has taken a few acting roles before and this will not be his first time in front of the screen by any measure. As for Stiller, this will be a reunion of sorts as Baumbach directed the 2010 film Greenberg, which Stiller also starred in.
In addition to Ad-Rock, the film also stars Amanda Seyfried, Adam Driver and Charles Grodin.
The film is said to follow:
“A middle-aged couple whose career and marriage are overturned when a disarming young couple enters their lives.”
In other Ben Stiller news, he’s about to go wild with professional daredevil Bear Grylls. Ben went with Grylls to a remote location to do some wild stunts for Bear’s upcoming show. At the time, Gylls said that he was a bit nervous about being responsible for Stiller, because he was an A-lister going on challenges with him.
“When you’re on your own a lot of it happens subconsciously. But suddenly with Ben Stiller at the end of the rope, I check my knots and triple check them. … I’ve got a massive responsibility to keep these guys alive. Ben was so great to film with because everything is just hilarious.”
As for Ad-Rock, it looks like his role was in development for a very long time. The Wrap reported back in July of last year that Horovitz was looking to join the production. Back then it was said that Ad-Rock would play a married friend to Ben Stiller and Watts’ characters, who just welcomed a baby and could no longer relate to couples who didn’t have children.
Ad-Rock’s first big role on screen was in the supporting category for the 1989 drama Lost Angels, where he was opposite Donald Sutherland. This is the first time he’s had a huge role in two decades. Then again, he’s been quite busy with The Beastie Boys until 2012.
The three rappers consisted of Mike D, Ad-Rock, and MCA (Adam Yauch). Yauch lost his battle with cancer in 2012 after being diagnosed in 2009. Following his death, the remaining members announced that they would no longer put out any new music.
