Britney Spears: Songwriter Bonnie McKee Says Nobody Expects Britney To Sing
Britney Spears recently received a little backhanded love from songwriter Bonnie McKee following the controversy surrounding the leaked “Alien” audio.
The internet wasn’t terribly surprised when an un-Autotuned version of the aforementioned track started making the rounds online. Although Spears has recorded a number of albums over the years, not too many people believe she’s the strongest singer in the business. Of course, that didn’t stop folks from blowing this situation out of proportion.
One person who strongly believes everyone should cut Britney Spears a little slack is songwriter Bonnie McKee. You might not know McKee by name, but chances are you’re familiar with her work. According to Perez Hilton, she’s penned tunes for the likes of Katy Perry, Ke$ha, and, of course, Britney. She’s kind of a big deal in certain circles.
During a recent chat with the folks over at MySpace, McKee explained that everyone is making too much noise about Spears’ skills in the studio. In short; nobody really expects vocal greatness when they sit down with Britney’s music. Ouch!
Bonnie apparently attended one of the singer’s shows at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. In her humble opinion, people weren’t too bothered by her limited vocal abilities:
“It was great. Britney Spears is great. No one expects her to sing. No, it’s fine. It’s OK. She’s an entertainer. Everybody loves the songs. Everybody’s singing every word.”
Another person who believes some people are making a big deal about Britney Spears and the whole “Alien” situation is William Orbit. The Inquisitr previously reported that the producer came to Britney’s defense shortly after the leaked audio started making the rounds online. According to Orbit, a lot of singers get a little digital assistance these days.
The producer explained in a recent Facebook post:
“I never thought that this debate would be quite so heated. Autotune has always been a hot-button topic. Not as much as the issue of photoshopping in the fashion press. But more than say, the use of CGI, looping and stunt doubles in the movies… Regardless of the fun and games that we have with studio production, the main thing to keep in mind with Ms. Spears is that tens of millions (hundreds of millions?) of people enjoy the music. That’s pretty much the be-all and end-all of it. And charisma is charisma. No software ever invented can manufacture that.”
Are you still a fan of Britney Spears after the “Alien” leak? Do you agree that people are making too much fuss over her use of Autotune?
