is aiming for a place in the Guinness World Records after staging a stunt aimed at earning him the title for the most hugs given in one hour.
“I would like to invite everyone to come help me break the Guinness World Record and let’s ‘Hug It Out,” Cannon, 31, said in statement prior to the event, which went down before last night’s (August 19) Mets vs Brewers game at Citi Field in New York.
According to reports, the “Rollin with Nick Cannon Morning Show” host spiced things up by giving all participants in the hug-fest a commemorative Nick Cannon Mets T-shirt and awarding the first 100 huggers with free tickets to that night’s MLB game.
In a post on his website, Cannon – the recent father to twins with wife Mariah Carey – posted, “I am going to make History!”
Cannon’s record attempt has yet to be verified by Guinness officials, but he would have had to beat the current best of 1,749 hugs in an hour, which was set by Nick Vujicic on Sept. 25, 2010.
Regardless of the outcome, the fun-filled event was a sucess as Paper Jamz of WowWee said it would donate one toy for every hug to benefit the children at the Mets Care Room at the New York Hospital of Queens, CBS reports.
