Robert De Niro Invites Himself To World Cup Party In Brooklyn Home
Robert De Niro may not have been the biggest soccer fan in Brooklyn during the World Cup game, but he wasn’t going to miss the soccer game between the United States and Germany.
In an interview with BBC One’s Football Focus, Robert De Niro stated on the show that he was not a huge soccer fan. Robert admitted, “I am not into the sport.”
However, De Niro apparently did not want to be left out of the loop and decided that he wanted to watch the hugely anticipated match during a filming break.
De Niro was in Brooklyn’s Cobble Hill neighborhood on Thursday filming The Intern, according to Business Insider. Robert needed a break and decided that he wanted to watch the World Cup game. Knowing that this would be difficult without a place to set up a satellite to pick up the game, Warner Bros. decided to get help from people in a building living nearby.
A person who lived next to the location shoot told Business Insider that Warner Bros. sent the apartment building an email asking if they could place a satellite on the building and run a cable to the street so Robert De Niro could watch the game while on his break.
The email reportedly said, “Our lead actor, Robert DeNiro, would very much like to watch the World Cup game, today at 12p. Would it be possible to place a small portable satellite on the building rooftop ASAP and run a cable to the street to help facilitate this request?”
Instead of going through the trouble of the crew hooking up a satellite to the nearby building and watching the game on the set of the film, De Niro got himself invited to a nearby house where he was able to watch the soccer game with a group of people.
The neighbor reported that another email informed them that the satellite was no longer needed on the apartment building. “We got another email from a neighbor saying he talked to the crew and apparently he found a house of people watching it and joined them.”
De Niro may be more influential in soccer than he thinks. Daily Mail speculates that soccer star Raul Meireles crafted his beard and Mohawk to look like Robert’s character in Taxi Driver.
Robert De Niro’s publicist has not responded to requests for comments on the incident in Brooklyn.
