Trader Joe’s And Target Recall Seven Tons Of Hummus Over Possible Listeria Contamination
Trader Joe’s and Target are two stores that are recalling close to seven tons of hummus and other dips from the market due to a possible listeria contamination. According to the Huffington Post, a Massachusetts-based food manufacturer Hot Mama’s Foods announced the voluntary recall on Thursday, May 22nd.
The FDA posted a notice dated Monday, May 19th, that Prepared Foods manufacturer, Lansal, Inc. is recalling “approximately 14,860 pounds of hummus and dip products due to concerns about possible listeria monocytogenes, an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.”
According to the Chicago Tribune, hummus isn’t the only item being recalled. The report stated that Trader Joe’s, Target and other retailers are also recalling 241cases of bulk walnuts after a recent routine sampling of the product revealed traces of listeria. Lansal launched the recall of hummus after a single 10-ounce container of Target Acher Farms Traditional Hummus surveyed by the Texas Department of Health tested positive for the bacteria.
