Pea Growers React to Obama’s ‘Eat Our Peas’ Remark

Obama’s remarks about lawmakers needing to ‘eat our peas’- including pea-eating along with the unpleasant task of ripping off a band-aid- during comments about the debt ceiling have drawn the attention of the USA Dry Pea & Lentil Council.

The pea and bean growers council’s director of marketing Pete Klaiber said the group did not infer any offense from the Commander in Chief’s remarks, placing a positive spin on the comments:

“We take President Obama’s comment on the need to ‘eat our peas’ as a reference to the first lady’s push to get all Americans to eat a more healthy diet as part of the Let’s Move campaign… We know that if tasty and nutritious meals featuring peas are served more frequently in the White House and in the cafeterias of both Houses of Congress, it will contribute to a balanced diet, if not a balanced budget.”

Klaiber continued:

“Eating more lentils couldn’t hurt, either.”

The council may not be that far off in their assumption- Mrs. Obama grows snap peas in the White House Garden.
