Benedict Cumberbatch Leading As Time Magazine’s Most Influential Actor
The star of BBC’s Sherlock Holmes may very well be the most influential actor in this years’ Time Magazine‘s annual Top 100. Benedict Cumberbatch is the leading actor in Time Magazine’s 2014 poll. Time Magazine asks users to vote on their website which movie and television entertainers should be on the 2014 Time 100. Cumberbatch holds a commanding lead over other actors including Jared Leto and Jennifer Lawrence. Time magazine is also conducting similar polls for other categories such as World, US politics, Business and Tech, Culture and Fashion, Music, Media, and Sports.
Aside from being the leading actor in Time Magazine’s 2014 most influential Movies and TV personality poll, Benedict Cumberbatch is also currently in 6th place overall, being the only actor in the top 10. He shares the top ranks with Arvind Kejriwal, Katy Perry, Laverne Cox, Beyonce Knowles, Justine Bieber, Jared Leto, Lupita Nyong’o, Rihanna and Lady Gaga.
The Time Magazine poll closes at 11:59 pm on April 22. The Winner of the polls will be announced on April 23, and the official Time 100 list will be released on April 24.
It’s no surprise that Benedict Cumberbatch is the most voted actor in the polls, considering his current popularity both on TV and in the big screen.
Cumberbatch began his career in acting in 2001, when he starred in a couple of local plays produced and shown at the Royal National Theaters. A little known yet amazing fact about Benedict Cumberbatch is that he spent a year in a province in India to teach English to monks in a Tibetan seminary.
Benedict Cumberbatch is perhaps most known for playing the lead role as Sherlock Holmes in BBC‘s Sherlock; the popular modern retelling of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s detective books. He has then made a huge splash in the Hollywood scene, appearing in numerous blockbuster movies such as The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug and Star Trek: Into the Darkness. Cumberbatch has also held more serious roles in The Fifth Estate and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
In fact, Benedict is so fully booked that BBC is having a hard time putting together another season of Sherlock. The show’s creators Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat have said that while they have mapped out the new season of Sherlock, it depends on the availability of the cast.
“Everyone is very keen to do more, but we have accidentally cast the two most successful actors in the world and schedules are tight.”
But perhaps the most compelling evidence of Benedict Cumberbatch’s success is the existence of this Benedict Cumberbatch coloring book.
