A close call between a house and a FedEx delivery van was caught on a surveillance camera on Thursday. The video has now gone viral. The driver allegedly forgets to put the van into park and it rolls backwards down a declining street. Somehow, the van narrowly avoids hitting a tree and a house as it attempts its getaway. In the video, the driver frantically chases down the FedEx delivery van, but then drops his handheld device while pursuing the rogue vehicle. The driver abandons his futile chase for the van and rescues his device from the road.
Neighborhood dogs watch the fiasco and leap around with excitement, making this unfortunate accident amusing to watch.
FedEx spokesperson told Trending News , “While this video shows an unfortunate situation for the driver, safety is our top priority, and we are relieved no one was hurt.”
The owner of the surveillance camera that caught the footage of the escaping FedEx van said that the van suffered some damage . The van’s side door, side panel, and rear door took a beating. The homeowner wrote, “I did not speak to [the FedEx driver] directly, but did speak to the officer on the scene afterwards and everyone (except for a wooden fence) was OK.”
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulates delivery vehicles. According to FedEx, each year, it “delivers more than seven million packages to customers in more than 220 countries and territories.” FedEx awards its drivers for driving without an accident through the Safety Milestone Awards. Safety Milestone Awards are earned after driving completely accident-free for five years. Every five years, up to 30, when a driver has been accident-free, a new award is given. FedEx says, “thousands of drivers and contractors have logged millions of miles without an accident over the span of their careers.”
Trending News said that the FedEx van video, gained an enormous boost from Reddit. The FedEx van video rose to the front page with thousands of Reddit upvotes. Late last year, a FedEx driver left her keys in the truck while making a delivery and a man took it on a two-state joyride, KCTV 5 News reported. Though neither story compares to the footage of a FedEx driver throwing a flat screen TV during a delivery.
The video is entitled, “Sometimes Security Cameras catch a gem!” For those curious about how the FedEx van’s trek was so clearly portrayed with a mere surveillance camera, the homeowner explained that the van was caught on tape with a Foscam FI8905W Wireless IP Camera, which features high quality video.
