The PS4 1080p native resolution was all a lie, it has been revealed. This means that the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are more alike than we were led to believe. Sony had been boasting a superior resolution mostly to tip the console war scales in their favor.
What was really happening was that they were using a workaround, much like most consoles end up using toward the end of their life cycles. The game that tipped us off was one of many which boasted the 1080p native resolution. Killzone Shadowfall was promised to run at that level even at its maximum potential, and it doesn’t, even though Sony told us it would. They stated that the game features a “competitive multiplayer mode” that supports up to 24 players and “runs at native 1080p and 60 fps.”
However, when you actually play Killzone Shadowfall in multiplayer, the resolution drops in order to maintain the frame rate.
That sounds a lot like one of the early complaints about Battlefield 4 , where EA said they had to make sacrifices to keep the game running smoothly in multiplayer.
So yeah…Sony kinda LIED about sharing/buying used games. Convenient ommission is still a LIE. http://t.co/MfNvTQecZO via @engadget #PS4

While the PS4 1080p native display may not be such a big deal for some gamers who play for the games, not the technical aspects, the lie has infuriated many PlayStation 4 owners who were expecting more than they got.
Microsoft fans will probably cheer on the sidelines over this revelation, scoring a big point for them in the PS4 vs Xbox One debates, while Sony has yet to comment. Why did they lie?
One gamer took to exposing Sony’s habit of hiding things from their consumers by pointing out that the PS4 1080p native resolution lie is just the last of a long string running all the way back to 2005 with the announcement of the PlayStation 3. He stated in an entry titled “ Shame On Sony For Lying To Consumers” on a public blog:
“As a gamer I have been on record saying I absolutely do not care about resolution one bit. That being said, deceiving an entire group of gamers is just about the most awful thing you can do to them. You might not like Microsoft and you may have disliked their original DRM plans, but at least they were up front with everyone right from the start. Sony has a terrible habit of lying over and over to their fan base and it’s hardly ever mentioned. I could go over a list dating back to the debacle that was Sony’s E3 2005, I could bring up how the PS3 was supposed to have dual HDMI’s and run every game at 1080p 60fps….but more importantly Sony’s slogan is ‘We’re for the gamers’. How in the world can you lie, cheat and steal from your fan base and have the nerve to say you serve them in any way?”
Does Sony’s lie about the PS4 1080p native resolution change how you feel about them?
