Ninja Turtles Look Finally Revealed In Leaked Movie Studio Photos
The Ninja Turtles movie has been shrouded in mystery ever since Michael Bay announced the re-imagining of the popular comic book and 1990s television cartoon, but this week viewers got their closest glimpse ever of what the crime-fighting turtles will look like.
Back in May fans got a peak of the Ninja Turtles actors in motion-capture suits, but the actual on-screen look of the Turtles was kept secret throughout the movie’s production.
That came to an end this week when pictures of the Ninja Turtles leaked onto the internet, showing a few twists on the traditional portrayal, including sporting clothes and makeshift armor.
But fans looking to find the Ninja Turtles pictures may come into some difficulty. They were originally published on ComicBookMovie.com, but taken down at the request of the studio and replaced with a not-safe-for-work picture of Wonder Woman.
While it may not be directly from the studio, a picture of the Ninja Turtles from promotional materials showed up on Comic Book Therapy. The site doesn’t have a source for its picture, but the image appears to match the description of the leaked studio photos.
The look of the Ninja Turtles has evolved quite a bit since they made their debut in the original black-and-white comic books published in 1984. The heroes were originally intended to have red masks and plain belts, and were distinguished only by their different weapons.
When the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon debuted in 1987, each Turtle was given a specific color and monogrammed belt so young viewers could tell them apart easier.
GMA News Online, which also caught a glimpse at the pictures before they were scrubbed from the internet, describe a modern twist on the samurai look.
The report noted: “Donatello’s new wardrobe borrows visual elements from ancient Japanese warriors, although he appears to be wearing gadgets as well – quite appropriate, as the brainy mutant is the most technologically-inclined of the four.”
Raphael is also seen with his arms and legs wrapping in bandages as well as a loincloth around his waist. The easygoing Michelangelo is dressed more casually, with sunglasses, shorts, a necklace, and a jacket tied around his waist.
