Derrico Quintuplets Go Through 40 Bottles And 100 Diapers A Day!
The Derrico Quintuplets who were born in September of last year may be cute but they are also a bit of a handful.
The proud parents of the quintuplets, Evonne and Deon Derrico, spoke to the Today show about Deniko, Dariz, Deonee, Daician and Daiten, confirming that they need feeding every three hours and go through an extraordinary 40 bottles of milk a day.
And, of course, after that much milk and formula, it all needs to come out somewhere – and that somewhere is in diapers, lots of them! So many in fact that the Derrico’s estimate that they go through around 100 diapers per day:
“You change them and then you finish and go to the next one and then you realize the one you just changed did it all over again,” said Mrs Derrico.
The couple are no strangers to babies though. They already had kids before the quintuplets were born.
They are Dai, a ged 7, Deon, aged three, and one-year-old twins Dallas and Denver. Hey, you think they like the letter D? Mr Derrico said when the quintuplets were born: “We wouldn’t have been that shocked to have had twins again, but we could have never expected quintuplets.”
Having been in bed for the best part of her third trimester, Mrs Derrico gave birth at 32 weeks doubling her family in just one shot. The babies all weighed less than three pounds when they were born.Their genders were announced by the midwife one-by-one as they popped out.
Due to the potential dangers associated with having quintuplets, the babies were monitored closely in the neonatal intensive care unit. After a few weeks, doctors decided the Derrico quintuplets were healthy and well enough, and released them from hospital.
Nevertheless,The Derrico‘s were thrilled by the news they were to have quintuplets. Mummy Derrico said that she had always wanted to have a large family: “This is just a blessing from God. It really is. It’s a dream come true.”
Her husband added: “I don’t want any of them to grow up thinking they didn’t get enough love.”
