Gilligan’s Island Reboot May Make The Professor Character Gay
The Gilligan’s Island reboot is still a long way off, but the casting is already setting the Hollywood rumor mill ablaze.
Amid speculation that Beyonce or Jennifer Lawrence could play the bombshell Ginger comes another point of speculation — the Professor could be gay.
That topic was raised by Caprice Crane, the daughter of Tina Louise who played the original Ginger on the show. Crane said making the Professor gay would do a lot to explain how he was able to resist Ginger’s temptations for so long.
“My mom was constantly coming on to the Professor on the show, and he was never into it,” Crane said. “So the Professor could be the gay one. It would explain a lot. It would be fun if they shake it up, make it worthy of today’s times.”
Crane also noted that the Gilligan’s Island reboot will have a difficult time replacing her mother, but she had some ideas.
“I’m in love with Jennifer Lawrence,” she gushed. “She’s so fresh and charming and I love her ideas. The last go-around when this was being discussed, Beyoncé was suggested — and I think that would be a good idea. But Christina Hendricks is the obvious physical choice.”
The Gilligan’s Island reboot already has one actor officially signed on. Josh Gad, who was nominated for a Tony Award and won a Grammy Award for his work on the musical Book of Mormon, has been picked to play a yet-to-be-named character and write the script.
Crane said she hopes Gad can help bring some legitimacy to the project and move it along.
“I hope they get to do what they want,” she said. “Part of me thinks I don’t know why everybody has to remake everything, but part of me thinks it’s great, give it a fresh twist and make it fantastic.”
The actual Gilligan’s Island only ran for three seasons, but found a second life in reruns throughout the 1960s and 70s. There is no word yet on when the Gilligan’s Island reboot could be released.
