Manny Pacquiao Jabs At Brandon Rios, KOs Retirement Talk
Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao is expecting a win against Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios two weeks from Saturday and he plans to do so in decisive fashion; the two meet in the ring on November 23 in Macau, China. Invoking his 2009 knockout of Brit Ricky Hatton, the most recent knockout of his career, Pacquiao says Bam Bam might be in for some of the same.
“My gameplan for Rios will be similar to the one I had for Ricky Hatton,” Pacquiao said via Boxing Scene. “That fight didn’t go long enough for me to unveil everything. Maybe this time I’ll be able to show more of that plan. Maybe.”
Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, had previously said “Manny will be doing me a big favor by knocking this guy out.” Bam Bam has his own ideas about how this bout will go down, which he shared with Pacquiao when both men sat down with Max Kellerman for HBO’s Face Off: Pacquiao/Rios.
“I gotta go in there, I gotta retire you. I gotta retire Manny Pacquiao, because I’m the next star.”
Pacquiao responded with only a grin. It wasn’t the first thing he’s found amusing from Rios, but it was certainly less awkward than Brandon explaining his passion for pugilism.
“For me, boxing’s better than sex; that’s my orgasm,” said the 27-year-old from Lubbock, Texas.
Regarding the retirement talk, Manny Pacquiao is having none of it. Full of confidence coming off his KO loss to Juan Manuel Márquez, the Fighting Pride of the Philippines said he isn’t going anywhere, regardless of the outcome.
“I feel comfortable and confident about going on to win this fight, but I am not looking to retire if I lose this fight,” Pacquiao said.
Some wonder whether Manny Pacquiao is looking past Brandon Rios, with a fight already on the books for April. Opposing Views’ Alex Groberman has made it clear he thinks the idea of Macquiao winning via KO is “delusional.”
“Let’s be clear: Pacquiao-Rios can end in a knockout, but only if Pacquiao is on the receiving end of it.”
Can Manny Pacquiao knock Brandon Rios out? Is Pacquiao past his prime? Who should Manny Pacquiao face next if he wins?
